From Rachel Gilbert to Nihi Sumba

Stepping into the untamed beauty of Nihi Sumba, there was a tangible shift, not just in landscape but in rhythm. As the car wound its way through Sumba's lush highlands and sun-drenched villages, emerald rice fields spilled out beneath cloud-brushed skies. Wild horses roamed freely, untouched by the passage of time.

The Essence of Nihi

Days were filled with rare and unforgettable encounters, each one orchestrated by nature and elevated by the thoughtful curation of Nihi. Moments were not scheduled, but offered. We watched the delicate magic of a baby turtle hatch on the beach and swam with horses, each an essence of Nihi.

The Villas

The Villas at Nihi are sanctuaries carved into the jungle, suspended between sky and sea. Private plunge pools that overlook the turquoise Indian Ocean detailed with Sumbanese ikat hand-woven textiles and beautiful reclaimed teak structures, design elements that are all conscious and quietly extravagant. Walking to the sound of the waves, with sun pouring through the sheer linen curtains, we were welcomed as guests of something sacred. The line between indoors and out dissolves, inviting the island in to every corner of the space.

Culinary Experiences

Culinary experiences at Nihi are deeply sensory, refined yet soulful, inspired by the land and the sea. Local ingredients are elevated with global techniques. We had dinners beneath a canopy of stars, tables dressed in linen and candlelight, courses served with stories and connection.
